SWEET POTATO VARIETY KL5

1. Origin

Authors: Prof. Vu Tuyen Hoang, Dr. Nguyen The Yen, Prof. Mai Thach Hoanh, Dr. Pham Xuan Liem and Dr. Trinh Khac Quang-Field Crops Research Institute

– KL5 was selected from open pollinated population of sweet potato No.8. It was officially registed as national variety according to Decision No. 1659 QĐ/BNN-KHCN dated 13/5/1999.

2. Major morphology and varietal characteristics

– Growth duration: 100-120 days (winter), 140-150 days (spring).

– Good leaf and stem development, lobed leaf, rapid regeneration and suitable for leaf and stem frequently pruning. Soft leaf and stem and suitable to be castle food.

– Long and thin tuber, bright red tuber skin, good quality. Dry biomass content of 22-25%, starch content of 15-19%
– Stem and leaf yield: 20-25 tons/ha, high tuber yield: 18-20tons/ha, good cultication yield can reach  25-28 tons/ha.
– Good cold tolerance.
